Meeting Birdie
I have to admit it. I am a bigger fan of Birdie Jaworski/Beauty Dish now that I have met her. I have paid attention to Birdie's blog for some time now believing that she is the greatest brand ambassador that Avon could ever have. Of course, she is so much more than that. Her story is well documented on her blog - that's what makes her so popular - her stories. My tribe scooted down through the mountains of Taos to Las Vegas, NM to meet up with Birdie at her home. That is all I will say about the location of her secret hideout.
I have read many of her posts but she filled me in on parts of her story asking, "did you read the post about the accident..." There is something intriguing about getting to know someone first via their blog. I felt guilty for not memorizing her story or having read all her posts (Okay, I am a fan but not that kind of fan). But my interest and respect for her is sincere. I met 9 and 11 - her sons. They turned us on to a great holiday gift for my son, Nick.
I mentioned that some smart media company needs to recognize her talent and productivity (those two things go well together) and gobble her up. No need. Birdie has her own burgeoning media effort. I don't want to give away details as that is her story - hers to share. I am thrilled to learn that she has become a BlogHer editor and believe me, that is the least of her many accomplishments (I love BlogHer). She didn't say as much but I don't think I am going out on a limb here that blogging helped her discover, or at least develop, an innate writing ability.
I will confirm: She does have birds (vicious attack-bred birds). She is a Star Trek fan. She can make a mean bread-loaf thing (what was that again?). She knows how to buy her gingerbread cookies. And she chose her town via an online service.
Rather than giveaway the lifesecrets she told me during our visit, here is a quick list of some of my favorite posts which will help you get to know her as I did originally:
The day Scotty saved the future
Believe me, these are the tip of a very prolific and warm iceberg.
Thank you, Birdie.
